How Golden Shilajit Is Sourced: High-Altitude Collection & Extraction Process
Shilajit is a natural resin that seeps from rocks in the Himalayas and other high-altitude mountain ranges over thousands of years. It is formed from the decomposition of plant matter and contains fulvic acid, humic acid, and over 84 trace minerals. The sourcing region, collection altitude, and collection practices all affect the quality and composition of the raw material before purification begins.
Where Shilajit Comes From
Our Shilajit is sourced from high-altitude rock faces in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan — one of the most respected sourcing regions for Himalayan Shilajit. The raw material is collected from elevations above 3,000 metres, where the geological and climatic conditions are associated with high-quality Shilajit deposits. Himalayan Shilajit from this region is generally considered among the more fulvic acid-rich sources, though composition varies by deposit and collection period. We do not present this as a universal scientific fact — it reflects the characteristics of our specific sourcing region as verified by our Eurofins batch testing.
Step 1: Collection
Shilajit is collected from rock faces by experienced local collectors in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. The raw material is gathered during specific seasonal windows when the resin is most accessible. Collection is done sustainably — collectors avoid areas where Shilajit has already been recently harvested, allowing deposits to replenish naturally over time. The raw material is then transported to controlled processing facilities.
Step 2: Initial Assessment
Before purification begins, the raw material is assessed for quality. Raw Shilajit collected from rock faces contains insoluble debris, environmental microorganisms, and potentially elevated heavy metals from the surrounding geology. This is normal for raw Shilajit from any source — it is the reason purification is essential before the material is safe for consumption.
Step 3: Handoff to Purification

Why Sourcing Region Matters
Not all Shilajit is sourced from the same region or altitude. The geological composition of the surrounding rock, the altitude of collection, and the age of the deposit all influence the mineral profile and fulvic acid content of the raw material. Sourcing from verified, documented locations — rather than generic “Himalayan” claims — is one of the markers of a transparent brand. “Himalayan Shilajit” is not a protected term and can be used by any brand regardless of actual sourcing. Documentation is the only verification.
Why Raw Shilajit Is Not Safe to Consume
Raw Shilajit collected directly from rock faces is not safe to consume without purification. It contains insoluble debris, environmental microorganisms, and heavy metals at levels that may exceed safe limits. Traditional Ayurvedic practice has always included purification as an essential step — consuming raw Shilajit was never the intended use.
