Shilajit for Testosterone: What the Science Actually Says

Does Shilajit Boost Testosterone? What the Human Research Actually Shows
Shilajit is frequently marketed around male hormones, but the useful question isn't whether it qualifies as a "testosterone booster." The useful question is what the human clinical research actually measured, in whom, at what dose, and for how long. This article works through that evidence directly.
The Human Testosterone Study
The most relevant published research is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in healthy male volunteers aged 45–55. Participants took purified Shilajit at 250 mg twice daily (500 mg/day total) for 90 days.
In this study, the Shilajit group showed a 20.45% increase in total testosterone from baseline, a 19.02% increase in free testosterone, and a 31.25% increase in DHEA.
These are findings from one specific study population under one specific protocol — not a universal figure that applies to every man who takes Shilajit.
What This Study Does — and Does Not — Prove
The trial supports further research into purified Shilajit and male hormonal markers. It does not prove universal testosterone increases, treatment of testosterone deficiency, fertility improvement, libido improvement, muscle-building effects, or that Shilajit can replace medically indicated testosterone treatment.
Why Mechanism Claims Need Caution
Testosterone production involves complex endocrine signalling and cellular metabolism. Indirect biological mechanisms — whatever they may eventually turn out to be — are not the same as clinical proof. Reasons sometimes offered for how Shilajit might affect testosterone are not established facts and are not presented here as such.
Who Was Actually Studied?
The testosterone study population was healthy men aged 45–55. These results should not be generalised to men under 40, men over 60, athletes, or men with a diagnosed hormonal condition such as hypogonadism, unless separate evidence specific to those groups is cited.
Study Dose vs Product Use
The study protocol used 250 mg twice daily (500 mg/day total) for 90 days. Golden Shilajit's typical resin reference for general use is also 500 mg/day — but this is general usage guidance, not a testosterone-treatment dose, and it does not promise the same results reported in the study after any specific timeframe.
Product Quality Matters More Than Hormone Marketing
If someone chooses to use Shilajit, the product itself should be verifiable independent of any hormone-related claim. That means checking for a documented batch identity, independent laboratory evidence, heavy-metal results, a fulvic-acid result tied to its analytical method, and disclosed sourcing and purification.
Latest Documented Evidence
Golden Shilajit Official publishes batch-specific laboratory documentation. The most recent documented batch is HI-SHL-0226, tested by three separate laboratories. Full detail is available on the HI-SHL-0226 batch evidence page and the Batch Verification hub.
| Laboratory | Reference | Key Results |
|---|---|---|
| Eurofins Scientific | Report 5374116-0, Sample 16388887, 21 May 2026 | Fulvic acid 46.80 g/100g (method IRXNK-Fulvic Acid, Gravimetric). Heavy metals (ICP_MS_S, per 500mg serving): Mercury <0.00250 mcg, Cadmium 0.00940 mcg, Lead 0.467 mcg, Arsenic 1.18 mcg. The fulvic-acid analysis is marked outside ISO-accredited scope; this note does not apply to the ICP-MS metals results. |
| Anresco Laboratories | Order 960349, Sample 1352051, 25 Aug 2026 | Method ICP-MS / MF24E022, MDI 0.5g. Arsenic 4.941 µg/g (2.470 µg/day), Cadmium 0.024 µg/g (0.012 µg/day), Mercury ND, Lead 0.069 µg/g (0.035 µg/day). "ND" means not detected under this method — not zero. This is a total arsenic measurement, not inorganic arsenic specifically. |
| TTI | Batch HI-SHL-0226 (report/order/sample IDs not published) | Fulvic acid 44.31%, method ISO 5073:2021. This figure uses a different method than the Eurofins result and should not be averaged with it. |
Because Anresco and Eurofins use different methods and reporting bases, their heavy-metal figures should not be compared directly without accounting for that difference. See our testing process and the full Lab Reports page for more detail.

Shilajit and TRT
Shilajit is not a substitute for medically indicated testosterone replacement therapy. Anyone concerned about low testosterone should seek appropriate clinical testing and professional medical advice rather than relying on a supplement to self-diagnose or self-treat.
How to Evaluate Testosterone Claims
Before accepting any testosterone-related claim about a supplement, it's worth asking: Was the evidence from humans? What population was studied? Was there a placebo group? What dose was used? How long was the study? Is the seller quoting the study accurately? And is the product itself independently tested?
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shilajit increase testosterone?
One controlled human study reported increases in testosterone markers in healthy men aged 45–55 after 90 days, but this does not guarantee the same result for every user.
How much Shilajit was used in the study?
250 mg twice daily, 500 mg/day total, for 90 days.
How long was the testosterone study?
90 days. This was the study's duration, not a promised timeline for any individual user.
Is Shilajit a replacement for TRT?
No. Shilajit is not a substitute for medically indicated testosterone replacement therapy.
How can I verify the quality of a Shilajit product?
Check for a specific batch ID, a named independent laboratory, the analytical method used, and the actual reported result. See the Lab Reports page and the batch evidence page for Golden Shilajit's documentation.
